!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is reporting that the ‘19 Genesis G70 will be getting a manual in the US thanks to the release of EPA ratings for the car. The thing is you will only be able to get it with the 252 horse 2.0 liter engine on the G70 2.0T. The fuel economy for the G70 2.0T with rwd and the auto trans is 22/30/25 combined. It drops with awd going to 18/25/20 combined. The manual drops too going to 18/28/22 combined with rwd.
Hopefully the car is coming soon with the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of Hyundai wanting certain US dealers to be able to sell the car. Its why you wont find anything about G70 on the Genesis US site. Up in Canada you can already pre order the car. Here in the US, its like it doesn’t even exist.

What year is it when 250hp is not a lot of bang for a rwd sedan?
A miracle I say that it came in manual... now buy it! Buy it in droves!

But when is the G70 even coming to the US? And why would they reduce the number of Genesis dealers if they want to expand the brand? I don’t get this quality over quantity argument.

This sounds like a win to me. Could be fun to drive and good for highway slogs.

Its the mid 21st century. The last few years have caused us to be horsepower spoiled.

To me they seem to be pushing this exclusivity thing with the brand, which explains why they would want to have only certain dealers sell the car. They are shooting themselves in the foot doing this though.

I mean, our stinger is overpowered with the v6... Considering it’s the same plataform I think 250 is more than enough to have fun!

Especially with this being a sports sedan. Anyone that’s driven an ATS with the 2.0T will know 250-275 horses is more than enough in something like this.

Certainly, and you get to skip Kia’s nanny state auto gearbox... Which is a good thing

I think it looks great and getting a manual here is pretty freaking awesome. I like that it’s smaller than the Stinger but wish it retained the lift back.

Yea Kia’s 8 speed auto which is really just a 5 with 3 overdrives.

Im glad they didnt retain the lift back. They are close enough being 2 sports sedans from the same company.

Most gearboxes continue to be cogged as if they were six speed boxes rather than eight or nine... I guess that cogging them so that maybe only one gear was overdrive would space the rest too closely and it would be a wierd experience for people used to spread out ranges...

When the sedan weighs a ton and a half ... (actually, even more than that) ... 250 hp won’t feel like much.

A manual, you say?

1640kg for the rwd four pot stinger... Consider the g70 is smaller... It might weigh 1590 or even only 1.5 metric tons... Sure it’s heavy, but it’s not insignificant power, and those engines are torquey!

Ok, that’s awesome.
In theory, I’d rather have an NA V6 over a turbo 4 for that same amount of power, but I’ll have to drive it to see.

Same here. For sound and longevity as well. I don’t want to have to worry about turbo problems 120 thousand miles down the line.

Hoping you’re right, but considering Genesis is supposed to be the luxo brand I’m not holding my breath on it weighing that much less.

Its heavy cus it’s a hot chunk of Korean STEEL.
Seriously, instead of buying their own cheap steel they should probably embrace aluminium.

When will they learn that people don’t buy manuals because they’re cheaper than automatics anymore, they buy them for the driving experience. Sticking a manual in a base model, then complaining when their target market is wholely uninterested because they would have preferred the more sporting engine is foolish. Those people end up walking away altogether half of the time, because neither configuration is a particularly appealing one.
Hobble the little engines with CVT’s for all I care, but if you’re going to offer anything with a manual, offer them along side the more powerful performance oriented engines. Ya dolts!
(This has been a general rant/statement, and is not directed at any one manufacturer or model of vehicle.)

The last 10 or so years have seen manuals be equated with cheap and base while autos and sequential manuals have gotten more sophisticated. You would think some of the best engineers and brands on the planet would realize this but they dont and the models eventually die. Some people do want the bigger engine with the manual or the top trim model with the manual. I dont get how they dont see that.

Good call. Even longer lasting would be a large displacement V8 with the same power (which would be my absolute dream, but I know it won’t happen). Low stress FTW!
But I have to say that I’m not a huge fan of the turbo subaru I have now... too much lag, too sluggish at low RPM... I know modern turbos are better, but I’m still not a believer.

Given my generally positive experience of Hyundai manual transmissions, this may be the enthusiast choice, even if it’s not as fast in a straight line as the V6/Auto.

A full size sedan you mean, 250 hp is nothing in a car that size. A Fox body mustang has power like that.

The G70 is a full size sedan in what planet?

The planet where 4000lb cars are full size which is Earth.

Maybe forty years ago.
Lets look at an American full size sedan, the ford Taurus, and a
European full size sedan, the 7 series, both equipped with AWD and six
cylinder engines.
The Tauros SHO is 4300lbs.
The BMW 740i X drive is 4360lbs.
a mid-size sedan, like a g80 would be or a Kia Stinger would be, could break the 4000lb number nowadays. For instance the AWD six cylinder turbo version of the 5 series is 4020lbs, and the AWD six cylinder turbo version of the Stinger is 4003lbs; it’s virtually the same. But the G70 isn’t the same size as a Stinger.
No one knows how much the g70 weighs, but Car and Driver estimates it at around 3600-3800lbs. The BMW 340i X drive is 3700. which is within the ballpark of the g70's weight.
